Shirley Routledge
The Greatest Risk to your Wealth, is your HEALTH!
Shirley Routledge is driven with a personal story that fuels her passion for educating people on the importance of future planning and reliable options for overall wealth management. Just over 5 years ago, Shirley’s mother in law had a heart attack and developed OCPD requiring oxygen 24/7, leaving her unable to care for herself. This unexpected illness has put a tremendous burden not only on Shirley’s mother in law, but also on her whole family, both financially and emotionally. The many struggles over the 5 years could have been greatly reduced had there been long term care insurance.

Focused on healthy living now and into the future, Shirley is on a mission to share with people the importance of planning not only for today, but also for their futures. “If people don’t have their health, what else is there?” As Shirley and her family found out, life is unpredictable and can change at any moment. You may be healthy today, but no one knows what tomorrow will bring and the results can be devastating financially and emotionally.

“The greatest risk to your wealth, is your health”. Unfortunately, provincial health care programs are not always enough to cover the costs involved in dealing with unforeseen long term health issues and most private and group benefit plans expire at age 65, leaving many people having to deplete their savings, investments and income.

In creating a wealth management plan, it is vital to integrate strategies for your health in addition to investments and revenue generation. “The choice is simple, you can pay for long term care in the future by drawing down and depleting your investments (and potentially your children’s) or you can purchase long term care insurance now and let the insurance company carry the financial risk. It simply makes good financial sense.”

As an entrepreneur, Shirley takes pride in sharing correct and thorough information while being honest and upfront. Extremely knowledgeable of the industry, both personally and professionally, Shirley brings a unique perspective and empathetic compassion to the table when working with her clients.

With 15 years experience in business, Shirley’s advice for other entrepreneurs is “…do what you say you are going to do, take the good with the bad, and stay positive. If you are having a bad day, remind yourself tomorrow is a new beginning with new possibilities.’

Although Shirley is a new member of Roaring Women, she will be the contact person for a new Roaring Women chapter in the beautiful British Columbia Kooteney area.

Be prepared, no matter what the future brings; live for today, but also think long term!
