“One of my personal desires is that every child/youth has an adult in their life to role model and transfer essential life-career skills to them so that they in turn may enjoy successful lives-careers.”
Ann Hogan of ABC Life and Career Skills was born in London, Ontario as the only girl and youngest of five children. She attended college and trained as a Medical Lab Technologist. She worked as a Lab Demonstrator training college students in lab skills. In 1978, she moved to Calgary, Alberta with a friend to find a job in the healthcare field for which she had trained, and to experience new adventures and fun.
She later married and had two children. While her husband coached sports activities, she volunteered in the educational system. Connecting within the school community, by volunteering in various roles, felt rewarding to her.
“Ever since I became a medical lab tech, I realized my passion was health and wellness” says, Ann. After many years working in the medical field, she followed her passion and returned to college to learn how to use her natural gifts of compassion and teaching in a more personal way.
She obtained her diploma as a Certified Life Skills and Career Development Coach. Ann then coached a program at the Calgary Dream Centre, assisting and transferring her skills to others. She is proud to say that she was asked to instruct a course at the same college where she took her Coach diploma program training.
Her definition of personal wellness has expanded to include feeling Successful and Balanced in Life-Career. “I honour my passion now through Life-Career Coaching.”
Starting ABC Life and Career Skills was her dream. She loves the scheduling flexibility that she has for her own life-work-balance and helping other people. Ann says that “my goal is to make a difference by empowering adults to live a life that’s meant to be for them (a life and career with unique meaning)”.
Her ideal clients are adults (18+), parents, or role models who wish to feel successful and pass it on. But, there is a special place in her heart for children. “One of my personal desires and passions is to make a difference in a child’s life by empowering adults to be good role models…then, I will be doubly-blessed and so will they.”
Ann loves getting to know people on a deeper level, learning their thoughts, beliefs, feelings and helping them to become more aware of how their behaviours impact their life and career.
One of her toughest challenges has been explaining the differentiating factors between coaches. “There are a lot of misconceptions that people make about coaches. Explaining that easily, was a challenge” she says. She has two favourite quotes that she likes to use.
1) You cannot teach a person anything, you can only help them to discover what is in themselves. ~ Galileo and,
2) You have to Be the change that you want to see in the world. ~ Ghandi
Ann is also currently working with Career Connection. She has submitted articles for print to Mompreneur magazine, has been a guest speaker for a women’s business group and has facilitated workshops @ Women’s Grace Health Centre and for Ceridian.
When not working, she loves spending time with her family, traveling & playing golf. She is certified in Reiki Level II and uses it to channel energy for relaxation.
Envision your dream of a successful Life-Career. It's as simplistic as ABC: Awareness- Balance-Change! “People can live the life and have the career that they dream of. They have the natural gifts already, sometimes they just need to partner with a Coach to help them recognize existing strengths (values, personality traits, interests and skills) and develop new skills to reach their goals with ease.”
